A fireside chat with myself
I was a career journalist. As regards fiction, I made the choice to write early in my life. By the age of 11, I knew I was an author. I was already practicing the writing of whole stories of character and plot in narratives with a satirical bent. My first character was a detective named Sherlock Houses. I wrote him doing things that made the two girls I sat near in grade 6 class with Mr. DOUGLAS at Capilano Elementary in North Vancouver laugh out loud hysterically. The teacher, a large man with a hernia belt, rejected my proposal to put my stories with the other Gestetner'd stories along the wall of windows looking onto the courtyard. It was too much to ask. But I was never deterred by the rejection of narrow minded fat asses.
